Confucianism and raising awareness of environmental issues are the core of this series, and it has been subtly implemented in Aussi’s work from his brushstrokes, and his unique ways of structuring paintings with oil and acrylic. Confucianism is not always about diminishing desires, Aussi has built up his own language of art upon the Confucius concept. Abundant of vivid western palettes, subtle curvatures of eastern line works are the two main characteristics in his works that project those of the ancient ideals of Chinese poets with their lyrical poetry. For the environmental issues, Aussi target specifically on raising awareness of global warming.
Having his own ways of observing the nature, whether or not it is abstraction, or semi-realism, he had always been one hundred percent focused to devote his life to the process of completing a piece of art with the belief that it trades off life and energy to the piece. From the blood of his work flows the foundation of Confucianism that has been developed over millennia in Chinese culture, which Aussi portray with zeal and calm from his life source.
Aussi is fascinated with the human innate minds and souls. To him, they are about emotions and moments of life, which includes, crazy, anger, lost, deceit, beauty, calm, etc. That subconsciousness translates from our soul to our exterior surface, which includes our skin, our muscles, our bones, organs, etc. He likes the idea of painting on a canvas because they translate that idea well, that our innate powers are confined within our body, and that body frames our energy. Aussi treats colors on the canvas as our energies, whether it is negative or positive. Because colors and shapes are some of the best mediums that could bridge one’s subconscious to another without any disguise or language barriers. Using them, he is able to communicate to others about certain emotions that people commonly experience.
Aussi grew up in Los Angeles, Vancouver, Shanghai, Taiwan, and Toronto. He spent most of the years in LA and Vancouver, where he had a lot of love and access to seeing and being around corals at a young age. Therefore, knowing the possibility that they are diminishing is harsh. He believes that living in this era, it is important for everyone to contribute a part of their effort in their daily lives to maintain a healthy Earth since it is the only one, we have, and we share. And his second path of this series of works are about corals and environmental issues.
